Enchanted by childhood memories and the casual elegance of Palm Beach, Aerin Lauder heads to the South Florida town to open a new boutique filled with colorful home accessories.
Here, we caught up with the granddaughter of beauty icon Estee Lauder to learn about her favorite trends, inspirational pieces and her morning routine.
What gets your creative juices flowing?
I’ll go for a walk in Central Park and think about images that I see and things that intrigue me along the way. Whenever I walk, I’m very much thinking about inspirational ideas.
Tell us about your all-time favorite book.
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I loved it as a child, and read it to my own children. I love its messages of hope, passion and never giving up — no matter how old you are.
Who is your role model?
My grandmother, Estee Lauder. She was incredibly passionate and dedicated–at 85, she was still going to work until the very end.
What inspires you?
Books and travel. I love beautiful books on interiors, both new and out of print. I’m also inspired by different wonderful destinations, including Palm Beach, Aspen, England and the Mediterranean.
Describe your typical day.
I get up around 6:30 or 7 and have a cup of coffee. I have three dogs, so mornings are quite frantic. I love to walk to work. The rest of the day varies and that’s what’s exciting about the job; there’s always something new to do.
What trend do you hope never goes out of style?
I think pretty is always the most attractive. I’ll never forget the grunge trend, when everyone was wearing black nail polish. I didn’t like that.
What three objects do you always keep on your nightstand?
A rose lip conditioner, a white shagreen-framed picture of my children, and a pretty lamp.
What are your wardrobe staples?
A great pair of black pants. I also love scarves and gold jewelry.
