Multiple Styles Harmonize In A Scottsdale Home

It was definitely Moroccan and had a lot going on,” recalls professional golfer Cristie Kerr of the home she purchased with husband Erik Stevens when they had their son Nathan, and wanted to move to a golf community closer to the center of Scottsdale. She hired designer Kim Scodro to create interiors that reflected the “comfortable modern” aesthetic she and Stevens desired, which in itself had a double, if not triple, personality.

“We wanted to meld the same sophistication from our New York apartment with some refined Southwest touches,” she explains, adding that they also wanted to include early 20th-century industrial influences.

Coffered ceilings, recessed paneling, trim and wainscoting–all painted white–imparted the American Northeast character, while, says Scodro, “We reinterpreted Southwest as sort of a general ethnic style.” This manifests in hand-embroidered curtains in two rooms, an ikat grass cloth in the butler’s pantry, a zigzag pattern on wing chairs in the parlor and so on.

Lastly, light fixtures over the bar, dining table and kitchen island incorporate industrial age metals like bronze and copper. The bar’s zinc top and the powder room’s custom reclaimed barn wood vanity also help accomplish this. Together, they skillfully weave many disparate strands into a cohesive, relaxed whole.
