A Jersey Shore Waterfront Home Is Reincarnated
Set on the Jersey Shore, the cedar Shingle-style house designed by architect John Lederer and built by general contractor Skip Applegate serves as the perfect refuge for the Washington, D.C.-based homeowner.
After her late father’s waterfront Jersey Shore home was damaged during Hurricane Sandy, Nancy Van Duyne decided to rebuild a new abode for herself and her daughter, as well as visiting extended family and friends.
To bring her vision of a new cedar shingle-style home to life, the Washington, D.C., resident brought in lifelong friend and designer Joe Lucas, as well as local architect John Lederer. “Nancy loves color,” Lucas explains. “And this is actually a pared-down version of what she might have normally gone for.”
Bold hues are present in elements such as the vibrant beadboard walls in the guest room and built-in cabinetry throughout the home. The walls in the great room, however, feature a lighter shade, which is offset by the patterned fabric on dining room chairs, as well as the blue-and-yellow armchairs.
Additionally, to maximize the views and add multiple spots to converse with guests, nearly every room in the house is positioned facing the water.
“There’s a method to the madness,” Lucas explains. “Everything has its own special vibe but plays nicely together.”
