Characteristically, a gentleman’s study evokes a dark space brimming with leather and wood paneling, but designer Lisa Roth threw out that notion. She approached the room with a decidedly modern eye, yet deliberately incorporated classical elements such as the Greek key motif and an Art Deco bar. “The palette is rich in warm grays and creams with accents of bright orange, which maintain a masculine feel while adding a playful and unexpected aspect to an otherwise formal space,” says Roth. A limed-oak desk is paired with a pale mixed-media of Nefertiti, bringing a soft aspect to the space, while the darker gray wool rug grounds the tailored-gentleman feel of the room. Two flame chairs with a stained mahogany table add movement and interest. “The space was designed as a comfortable place for the man of the house to work, read, and entertain friends,” says Roth.
