Nature’s schedule does not offer a one-day install, and the team at landscape architecture firm McDugald-Steele stepped up to the challenge of restoring the grounds over a 10-month period. “The test was to define where we could be most impactful,” says John Dupuy, who, with his firm, developed four main outdoor areas: The great lawn, grand terrace and pool pavilion, designed in conjunction with Connie LeFevre, create a traditional place of respite brimming with many species of palms; the signature orb garden explores a conceptual design approach with a simple and unifying geometry. “The circle form evolves from two dimensions on the ground to a backdrop for the floating wall-mounted bouquets, and finally into the fully realized sphere of globe boxwoods.
