Gray Lady

To complement architect William T. Baker and designer Kelly Wolf Anthony’s design for the pool house, landscape architect John Howard placed clipped American boxwoods in Greenform pots atop niches of Mexican river pebbles. Janus et Cie’s Matisse chaise lounges punctuate the far end of the pool, which features an interior border of Lunada Bay Tile’s Abruzzo Silk glass mosaic. Lanterns by The Urban Electric Co. set the scene.

Lasting Impression

“We wanted the pool house to look like it had always been there,” says architect Amanda Orr, whose concept comprised a vaulted ceiling, accordion steel doors by Jorge Iron Works and a curved stucco exterior by Georgia Stucco Specialists Inc. to conceal the spacious outdoor shower. A beach scene by Sally King Benedict is framed by bentwood armchairs from B.D. Jeffries indoors and a pair of The Urban Electric Co.’s Lyford lanterns on the exterior.

Blending In

Architect David Anderson ensured the hallmarks of the pool house would meld harmoniously with the main residence. Lap siding and brickwork in Sherwin-Williams’ Eider White contrast Williamsburg lanterns by Bevolo Gas & Electrric Lights and NanaWall bifold doors as concrete flooring by Hartstone Tile extends indoors. Summer Classics’ Monaco chaises impart resort style as Ledge Loungers submerge in the pool.

Traditional Meets Modern

Architect Oliver Cope designed the new pool house with the look of a barn conversion. By pairing traditional forms like the steeply pitched roof and cupola with a retractable glazed façade, its design echoes the old-meets-new spirit of the main house and feels natural to the property. The loungers are Munder Skiles.

Sitting Pretty

For seating at the pool house bar, designer Terry Hunziker chose Altura furniture. Just outside is an expansive deck anchored by outdoor furniture by Sutherland. Landscape architect Michael McGowan worked with fellow landscape architect Robert E. Truskowski—who has an eponymous firm—on the property’s major specimen trees.

First Impression

Leading off the patio, a path lined with Sylvester palms and terra-cotta planters containing elephant ears draws the eye to the shellstone pool and the pool house, home to a Four Hands table and Sutherland chairs. Landscape architect Chris Vance designed the grounds, which were installed by Steve Kross.

Luscious Hideaway

“We inserted contemporary elements into the garden for an updated feel, such as the monolithic stone fire pit and pared-down garden walls and steps,” says landscape architect Renée Byers. The pool and pool house (designed to emulate the main property with modern notes) were carefully sited for utmost privacy.

Multipurpose Style

Although it’s a new building, the Cabana is designed to look like a vintage barn that has always been on the property. It serves as a pool house, a guest house and a gym. The outside is colored with a custom stain and the entry is flanked by vegetable beds created by landscape architect Janell Hobart.
