Among a growing number of boutique Portland hotels is the latest from Marriott’s Autograph Collection, the Hi-Lo Hotel.

The 120-room project resides in the Oregon Pioneer Building, formerly the Railway Express Building and, historically, the city’s first major structure to be constructed with concrete.

Described as “both raw and refined,” elements throughout nod to the hotel’s history, such as in the concrete accent walls alongside exposed wood and plush rugs.

Reimagined by Arris Studio Architects working with ODADA and designer Jessica Helgerson, the interiors offer a modern and fresh atmosphere.

“Our task was to create a furniture package that was sensual, playful and curvy,” says Helgerson.
