Along the six-block commercial district of Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood, treasures abound. The latest discovery is home goods and gift shop Hey Jude by Sara Knowles, who along with her husband owns two of the block’s most popular restaurants: Homer and Milk Drunk. “Building those businesses has rooted us deeply in the neighborhood,” says Knowles, whose family home is in walking distance from all three spots. Featuring a curated collection of Knowles’ favorite brands alongside local makers and vintage finds, Hey Jude offers homewares, gifts, and pantry items including fresh dips and sundries from restaurant Homer. “On paper it might seem unexpected to see dips, vintage objects, jewelry and greeting cards all in one space,” admits Knowles. “But to me it all connects. I wanted to create the retail space I felt was missing in the neighborhood.” With her background in interior design, Knowles jumped headfirst into creating the homey, delicately appointed shop with its vintage display hutches, antique mirrors and artworks from local makers. “I love getting to highlight people and things that have been part of my world for a long time,” Knowles says. “The shop feels specific to us and to this neighborhood. It’s anything but cookie-cutter.”
